Reverence and adoration: Jennie Vee, Out For Blood

Some artists present 50s rock n roll and rockabilly for the 21st century through a gauze of revisionism, adding psych or noise rock, and more interested in putting on shades and pouts.

Instead, Jennie Vee opts for a brand of iconophilia; she shows a reverence and adoration for the sacred texts and imagery. With this is mind her new single ‘Out For Blood’ is more reminiscant of Johnny Thunders later r ‘n’ roll such as ‘MIA’ and ‘Blame It On Mom’. The affect is pleasingly heightened by a Johnny T -ish guitar solo. The cumulative effect feels like The Jenny Vee Rockabilly Revue, with the emphasis on fun, as opposed to danger.

There’s a point, Jennie’s previous releases felt like the work of a solo artist, here, despite her name and image on the cover, this feels like her fronting a rock ‘n’ roll band than presenting her own unique vision. With that comes it’s own sense of fun, a looseness and a fitting sense of abandon.

A short, sharp and triumphant return!
