Astral Lynx present ‘Flow’

A vibrant jelly fish is a fitting avatar for Astral Lynx, who are groovy and colourful, but are also stingy and dangerous. Astral Lynx are a curious beast in that they combine widescreen rock with a soundtrack bent, with meditative and mind expanding properties. This is a band with leopardskin print pants, their third eye open and chashing a serial killer all at once. This is a band full of pulp and life lessons.

Songs unwind like long lethargic serpents, then bite suddenly without warning, like long lethargic serpents. Songs like ‘Flash Gordon’ and ‘Shaman’ percolate over 6 plus minute of ebb and flow. In fact only two tracks come in at under 5 mins and hey when you’re travelling in space the voyage ain’t a quick one. One of those, ‘Rising Sun’ is a dirty red Cadillac of a song.

‘Beyond Sahara’ is a dust bowl camp fire yoga session on really great drugs.

It all culminates in the old school blow out of ‘Cosmic Beast’ which is the equivalent of a 3 hour movie, plus trailers, plus those red curtain they don’t have any more, plus popcorn. It’s proper 4 dimension bothering, head banging, pill popping psych.

Samples pop up here and there through the album giving Flow it’s vibe of new age crystals. It’s a bit like if The Orb had made the soundtrack for Sorcerer but it’s nothing fucking like that at all. It’s all rather odd…

An acid espresso, Flow needs to be bathed in a few times for it to really cleanse your soul, though while you’ll come out cleansed mentally, your pores may not be…
