OK, so it’s blues, rock ‘n’ roll, glam and plenty more from Argentinian band Aguas Tonicas. Active since 2004, Saturno Swing is their latest album.
The first two tracks, ‘Astillero’ and ‘Boogie Sovietico’ are such joyful odes to late night dancing they appear to leave the competition in their wake. They rip from your speakers, powered by an incredible tight rhythm section and ice cool guitar licks. It’s damn dirty fun is what it is.

‘Rumor Blues’ has the kind of seductive burn that title suggests. The slow, warm ‘Camina a la selva’ hits like a shot of rum. ‘Cuerpo de ave’ has a rollicking garage clatter.
‘El patio y el aljibe’ has a smooth, Radiohead glide, stirred up with a Sonic Youth rumble. Meanwhile, the title tracks suggests a better, alternative version of classic rock; stadium riffs, but mixed with a sense of fun and low skullduggery.
‘Fuerzas Eroticas’ sounds like Gang Of Four on holiday, all bouncy punk funk and A Certain Ratio’s fake tan. ‘La Recova’ meanwhile is as bright and happy as Scottish post punk such as Orange Juice; scratchy guitars and upbeat vocals.
Production is crisp, with drums and vocals being prominent in the mix, leading to an immediate feel.
Hot and dusty, smooth and sexy. Get it down yez…
